Probability vs. Absolute Truth

Generative AI models are fundamentally engines of probability. When an AI generates an image or a block of code, it is essentially guessing the "most likely" next sequence of pixels or characters based on its training data. Close enough is usually good enough.

Engineering does not run on probability. It runs on absolute, deterministic truth. A 5.000mm bearing bore cannot be 4.998mm. If an algorithm is tasked with converting an STL mesh of a mechanical part into a solid B-Rep STEP file, it cannot "guess" the geometry. If it hallucinates a slight chamfer where a razor-sharp 90-degree angle must exist, or slightly shifts the center point of a bolt hole, it will ruin a $50,000 CNC machining run.

The Privacy Nightmare

Beyond geometry hallucinations, AI poses a massive threat to intellectual property. Machine learning models require vast oceans of training data to function. When you upload a proprietary, pre-patent mechanical design to an "AI-powered" cloud tool, you have to ask yourself: Are they using my CAD file to train their models?

For most enterprise engineering firms, aerospace companies, and defense contractors, that risk is an absolute dealbreaker.
