As a mechanical design engineer, I know exactly how frustrating it is to try and modify a raw STL file in CAD or CAM software. I desperately wanted a tool that could convert an STL to a native STEP file in one click, without taking forever.
I did my research. Tools like Geomagic, Quicksurface, and Mesh2Surface exist, but they are incredibly expensive and have steep learning curves. On the other hand, I strongly dislike the recent trend of "AI-powered" CAD tools. I decided to write my own deterministic algorithm from scratch, one that converts geometry predictably, with a single click, and absolutely zero AI.
I've been using this algorithm daily in my own professional work, and I decided to make it available for other hobbyists and professionals facing the same polygon headache.
